Since taking over as the Prime Contractor at RAF Valley, BAE Systems has wished to show support for locally based community organisations; accordingly, in recognition of the efforts put in by the Anglesey First Response Scheme, Mr Dave Bevan, General Manager of Hawk IOS, presented the Scheme with a cheque for £200.
The Scheme was set up in 2004 and is affiliated to the Wales Ambulance Services NHS Trust. It consists of 8 teams around the island and operates by attempting to reach a casualty quickly should an ambulance not be immediately available or in the vicinity. All Scheme members are volunteers and are trained in first aid, oxygen therapy and defibrillation techniques during 22 hours training, 4 of which must have been in the use of a defibrillator.
The cheque was received on behalf of the Scheme by Emma Corbett, who is a member of both the RAF Valley and Benllech teams and Mr Bevan, in thanking the AFRS for the good work they are doing, said he also hoped to show further support for the Scheme in the future. There are 40 members in the AFRS at present and will always welcome new volunteers.
