Anglesey First Responders Save Life - In England

First Responders

Two Members of the Anglesey First Response Scheme were involved in saving a woman's life whilst traveling from London recently,

On the 10th October Robert Thomas from Valley, and Andrew Wood from Rhosneigr were first on the scene at an accident between junctions 12 & 13 of the M40 motorway in Warwickshire and were giving assistance for whiplash injuries when a female causality reported feeling unwell with Chest Pains. Recognising the first symptoms of a cardiac episode Andy and Rob summoned help from the local Ambulance NHS trust and, when asked for further information they suggested that the use of an Air Ambulance would be an appropriate course of action. The Helicopter duly arrived and the casualty was taken to hospital where she received rapid care and attention.

For their prompt and caring treatment Andy and Rob received letters of thanks from both the Coventry and Warwickshire Ambulance NHS Trust and the Warwickshire Police Authority. Letters praising the First Aiders actions were also sent to the schemes governing body, the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust, whose Regional Staff Officer, Harold Burrows, stated in his own letters to them " I am always delighted to receive correspondence of this nature and would like to add my own personal thanks for the way you represented the Welsh Ambulance Services First Responder Scheme on this occasion"

Rob also said that it was fortunate that they were on the scene when the accident occurred and that the training they received was important as they were able to recognise the symptoms of an impending heart attack as early as they did.
