In memory of James Michael Roberts
1933-2008
James Michael Roberts but always known as Mike he was born in Derbyshire just before the second world war in 1933 and spent most of his life as a journalist working for many years on the Daily Mail firstly in Manchester then london, before becoming editor in Chief of the Essex Chronicle Group of newspapers in Chelmsford Essex. Mikes heart problems started in the early 1990 more than likely a legacy of his 60 a day smoking habit from the age of 18!! and he suffered a massive cardiac arrest in 1995 , just a year after he married his wife Anne, who had done her first Aid Training both as a qualified Riding Instructor and as a member of HM Coastguard Service. She was able to carry out CPR until paramedic assistance came to take over and Mike survived and got a new lease of life after a quadruple Bypass operation the following year.
Anne joined the Anglesey First Responder Scheme when it first started and Mike was an ardent supporter of it's work and never minded Anne disappearing in the middle of the night to attend to the many call outs she had.
Sadly Mike suffered the rupture of a large Abdominal Aortic Aneurism on Christmas day 2008 and sadly arrested at the end of a three hour repair attempt and never regained conciousness.
A collection was made at his funeral service and £480 was collected in his memory towards the Anglesey First Responder scheme and the same amount towards Alaw Ward, Ysbyty Gwynedd.
On behalf of all Responders on Anglesey, Mike you will be missed, and always in our thoughts, goodnight and god bless mate, Anne is well loved by all in the Scheme.
