'Fantastic response' after vandal attack
PUBLIC outrage at vandals who left an Anglesey medical team out of pocket has led to several acts of kindness and generosity.
As reported in the Mail of August 24, Anglesey First Response's participation in the Holyhead Maritime Festival was nearly scuppered by the vindictive act of vandals.
Louts caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to the charity tent, leaving it wrecked and useless.
After the story appeared, the team had an amazing response from the public, gaining a new tent and cash donations to help with their hard work.
It received a £300 anonymous donation from an island resident shortly afterwards, as well as a four-man tent given by a Mr Jones of Holyhead.
The group also received another anonymous donation of £300 from a man in Caergeiliog as well as another tent from the First Amlwch Scouts to continue its work at community events and festivals.
Robert Thomas, a member of the AFR team, said: "We're really grateful to those who have come forward to help, it means a lot to us and the work we do. The response has been fantastic."
AFR aims to improve response times to emergency medical situations on the island which currently stands at below the national average.
The national survival rate for cardiac incidents is 5%, on Anglesey it is just 3-4%.
The charity is now raising funds for a trailer to spread its message around the island, making it easier for it to attend community events and to facilitate its fundraising.
* Anyone who would like to make further donations to the work of AFR can contact local coordinator Duncan Williams on 07932 802331.
The charity is also eager to hear from anyone who has web design experience and might like to donate their time to maintaining its website at www.angleseyfirstresponse.co.uk
